Ahoy,
Our preparations for Murray Parkway Stake's Young Women Camp 2014 begin this Sunday as we invite all the Young Women and their leaders to join in memorizing "The Living Christ". We hope that many families will choose to get involved and memorize it along with us.
Our Camp theme this year is "ANCHORED" and we will focus on Anchoring Our Souls to CHRIST. We will also focus on anchoring with integrity to our covenants, to our family, and to good works.
From a New Era article "Anchor Your Soul" by Elder M. Russell Ballard, we learn of the value of strengthening our ties to the Savior. Imagine a beautiful sailing ship manufactured from the finest materials and reinforced and strengthened for the roughest seas. suppose the anchor on this ship was of the finest craftsmanship, but suppose, by some inadvertent error, the chain attached to the anchor was inferior and weak. Visualize what would happen the first time the anchor was lowered or a strong wave tried to push the anchored ship out to sea. If any link of the chain holding the anchor broke, the anchor would be left to rust on the bottom of the ocean and the ship would drift out to sea. The comparison to our lives is plain. The links in our chain of faith and testimony that enable our personal anchor to keep us safe and secure are doctrines and teachings of Jesus Christ. Remember that a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. Look to the Lord for strength. Work on one link at a time and strengthen each until you can feel anchored safely and securely to Jesus Christ.
Give some thought to what things in your life keep you anchored to our Savior. There are so many simple things we can do each day, things like praying, reading our scriptures and other good books, being kind, serving a neighbor, choosing to be honest or to be patient with a family member. These things are important and eternally significant, however, sometimes in our lives we can choose to do something that links us to our Savior that is HARD! There is a great deal of satisfaction and even joy from taking on a challenge and seeing it through to the end.
As each of us focus on coming to Christ in 2014, the powerful words of The Living Christ can be a strong link in the chain that holds us fast to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Let's all give it our best effort and believe in our ability to do hard things. All things are possible with God!
